Exchange 2010 OWA authentication issues?

If you are not reading the step-by-step installation guide (any of them) and relying on Exchange 2010’s “pre-requisites” check, you may have an issue with OWA when done.

Basically when the setup program is checking the Pre-requisites for CAS, it doesn’t check to ensure you have the correct authentication protocols installed.

This can be remedied by adding them as follows;

I also enabled the Windows Authentication, just for good measure.

Post-install no need to force an IIS restart (I think it does it as part of the install TBH), just refresh your OWA logon page and login as you want 🙂

    AWESOME! You’re a lifesaver. This was exactly my problem. Enabled basic and digest only and was able to log in w/out a problem. Thanks so much!

    When I try to log on to owa I receive windows security logon.Not the out look web access web app page. I need to remove this. please help

      As a guess you have Integrated authentication enabled, not forms based. Does your environment contain a reverse proxy (i.e. ISA/TMG) – this is typically the reason for it being configured so.

      If it doesn’t you can change this either from the EMS or EMC;

      Should help, but in short;

      get-owavirtualdirectory | Set-owavirtualdirectory -FormsAuthentication:$true

      should do the trick 🙂

        Sounds like your CAS role is poorly;

        First thing I would try is resetting the iis virtual directories;

        The above link will talk you through for 2010, and I would use the EMC as it’s simpler in this case.

        Hope that helps 🙂
